National Library of Wales – statement from the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee

The Chair of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee, Nick Ramsay AM, has made the following statement in response to the Wales Audit Office report – ‘National Library of Wales – A Review of Governance’.

Mr Ramsay said:

“The National Library of Wales is a vital resource to the people of Wales.

“It’s vast collection is of both national and international importance in giving access to all kinds of recorded knowledge, especially relating to Wales and other Celtic peoples, to the public, including those engaged in research and learning.

“The Auditor General’s report highlights improvements to important aspects of the Library’s governance and management following a difficult period.

“The Library still faces some significant challenges to establish its sustainability in responding to reductions in Welsh Government funding.

“However, the report draws attention to the need for the Welsh Government, as the Library’s Sponsor, to play its part in that process.

“In particular, I welcome the Auditor General’s references to the work of the last Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee, and the recommendation that the Welsh Government should clarify its position in response to that committee’s work.”

The Public Accounts Committee will be considering the Auditor General’s report shortly.
